The “patent bar exam” is an exam generated by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) which prospective patent practitioners must successfully pass before becoming a registered patent agent or patent attorney. The exam is being updated to include new material as a result of the recent implementation of the America Invents Act. The “pool” of potential questions has historically remained somewhat stable and examinees often prepared for the exam using banks of old questions. Now, it is expected that 15-20% of the exam will relate to entirely new material.
